MOBILE, Ala. - The No. 22 Auburn men's golf team holds an eight-stroke lead over Memphis midway through the second round at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course. Play during the second round was suspended due to darkness.
The Tigers are at even par while Memphis is second at 8-over followed by No. 19 Illinois in third at 9-over. No. 12 LSU and Mississippi State are tied for fourth at 11-over.
"The conditions were extremely difficult out there today," head coach Nick Clinard said. "The guys did great as a team, and Jake (Mondy) did very well in the individual tournament. Tomorrow is a new day, and should be a challenge."
All-SEC junior Niclas Carlsson holds the individual lead at 2-under through 31 holes. Carlsson was tied for second after shooting a 1-under 71 in the first round. During the second round, Carlsson birdied No. 9 and currently has a one stroke advantage over five players who are tied for second at 1-under.
All-SEC senior Michael Hebert and All-SEC sophomore Michael Johnson are tied for seventh at even par. In the first round, Johnson carded back-to-back birdies on Nos. 2 and 3 before double bogeying No. 7. Johnson rebounded to turn with birdies on Nos. 8 and 9 to go to 2-under.
The Birmingham, Ala., native then bogeyed the first two holes on the back before a birdie on No. 15. In the second round of play, Johnson is 1-over after a bogey on the par-4 No. 7.
Hebert, who shot an even-72 in the first round, moved to 1-under in the second round with a birdie on No. 5. Following a bogey on No. 9, Hebert birdied No. 10 before bogeying No. 12 to remain at even par through 14 holes.
Senior All-American Dominic Bozzelli is tied for 19th at 4-over. Bozzelli was 1-under after the first round, but is currently 5-over in the second through 12 holes. Senior David Zickler is tied for 48th at 8-over.
In the USA Individual Tournament held at the Magnolia Grove Falls Golf Course, redshirt freshman Jake Mondy is tied for seventh at 3-over, while senior Jackson Beindorf and redshirt sophomore Dan Stringfellow are tied for 23rd at 9-over.
