Auburn Tied For 4th, Stringfellow 7th After Opening Round At Amer Ari Invitational

Riding the 5-under carded by junior Daniel Stringfellow the Auburn men's golf team stands in a tie for fourth after the opening day of the Amer Ari Invitational at the Waikoloa Kings' Course at Waikoloa, Hawai'i. Auburn as a team shot a 14-under, 274 and sits just three shots behind leader Oklahoma State.

"The guys played well overall and we were able to shake some rust off today," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "Tomorrow should be fun and we are looking forward to it."

Stringfellow shot a minus-2, 34, on the front nine and a minus-3, 33, on the back nine for a 67 as he carded to six birdies in the round. He is tied with six others for seventh, three shots behind leader Thomas Lim (minus-8) of Oregon.

Sophomore Jake Mondy and freshman Matt Gilchrest each shot a minus-4 and are tied for 14th with five others. Mondy recorded five birdies and one bogey while Gilchrest had six birdies and two bogeys. Both birdied the 18th hole to finish the back nine at minus-3.

Senior Niclas Carlsson is tied for 54th after an opening round 71 (minus-1) while freshman Victor Henum shot a plus-6.

Playing as an individual, freshman Will Long is tied for 76th after an opening round 73.

TCU is second in the team standings at minus-16 and Southern Cal is third at minus-15. Texas is tied with Auburn at minus-14 and the two teams are two shots ahead of Oregon.
