Four Auburn football players were selected to the Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference Teams that were recently announced. Junior Pat Sims was named to the first team, while seniors Quentin Groves and Patrick Lee and freshman Ryan Shoemaker were named to the second team.
Sims, a defensive tackle from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., finished the regular season with 32 tackles (24 solo, eight assists). He was second on the team in both tackles for loss (8.5 for 54 yards) and sacks (3.5 for 40 yards). Sims also had three pass break-ups, two forced fumbles and returned a fumble 21 yards for a touchdown against New Mexico State.
Groves, a defensive end from Greenville, Miss., has 35 tackles this season (21 solo, 14 assists) in 10 games played. He has seven tackles for loss and three quarterback sacks while forcing two fumbles. Groves, who was a first-team All-SEC honoree by the league's coaches, shares the Auburn career record with 26 sacks.
Lee, a cornerback from Miami, Fla., leads the team with eight pass break-ups and shares the team lead with four interceptions. Lee, who also returns kickoffs for Auburn, is sixth on the squad with 51 tackles (36 solo, 15 assists) and has forced a fumble.
Shoemaker, a punter from Birmingham, ranks second in the SEC and 16th nationally in punting, averaging 43.2 yards per kick. He has placed 14 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line with just one touchback, and has helped Auburn rank third nationally in net punting (39.3). Shoemaker was also picked to the All-SEC Second Team by the league's coaches.
