Terry Beasley Inducted into College Football Hall of Fame

"It is a great honor and I am glad that God gave me the ability,” said Beasley. “It makes me feel humble to be in the same company with all the athletes that are associated with the Hall of Fame. To go in the Hall with such great company is also a tremendous honor.”

During his career, Beasley broke numerous Auburn and Southeastern Conference records. A unanimous All-America selection in 1971, Beasley currently ranks first on the Auburn all-time list in career receiving yards (2,507), touchdown receptions (29), career 100-yard receiving games (12) and ranks first and second in touchdowns caught in a season with 12 and 11.

Beasley joins former Auburn players and coaches Jimmy Hitchcock, Walter Gilbert, Pat Sullivan, Tucker Frederickson, Bo Jackson, Coach John W. Heisman, Coach Mike Donahue and Coach Ralph “Shug” Jordan in the Hall of Fame.

Beasley, who was the primary receiver when quarterback Pat Sullivan won the Heisman Trophy in 1971, finished eighth in the voting that same year. A two-time all-conference selection, Beasley was the leading scorer and receiver in the SEC and tied the NCAA record for yards per catch with 20.2 in 1970. He finished his career ranked third nationally in receiving touchdowns with 29 and eighth in receiving yards with 2,507.

In addition to Beasley, the 2002 class of players includes George “Sonny” Franck, Minnesota, 1938-40; Cosmo Iacavazzi, Princeton, 1962-64; John Jefferson, Arizona State, 1974-77; Ronnie Lott, Southern California, 1977-80; Dan Marino, Pittsburgh, 1979-82; Napoleon McCallum, Navy, 1983-85; Reggie McKenzie, Michigan, 1969-71; Randy Rhino, Georgia Tech, 1972-74; Jerry Sisemore, Texas, 1970-72; Gary Spani, Kansas State, 1974-77; Reggie White, Tennessee, 1980-83; and Kellen Winslow, Missouri, 1976-78. Coaches Earle Bruce and Carmen Cozza will also be inducted.

The College Football Hall of Fame is located in South Bend, Indiana. To be eligible for selection, players must have received a major first-team All-America recognition and must have had 10 years pass since his last year of intercollegiate football. A player’s post football record as a citizen is also weighed in the selection process.

Beasley will be enshrined at the College Football Hall of Fame in August, 2003.
