AUBURN, Ala. - After a well-deserved day off on Saturday, the Auburn football team returned to the practice fields Sunday evening, working out in shells for 90 minutes as the Tigers continued to prepare for Friday's game against Alabama.

The team opened practice with special teams work before moving to individual and position drills. After two more special teams periods, the latter portion of practice saw the offense and defense working against the scout teams.

Following practice, defensive coordinator Ted Roof said that the team seemed fresher after having a bye week following 11 straight Saturdays of football.

"There was a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of energy," said Roof. "You would expect that. Certainly the Iron Bowl is as huge a game is there is in college football. I saw some recharged batteries and it was good for our players to be able to do that."

Roof also said that the Auburn defense will have a stiff challenge slowing down Alabama's running game that ranks 10th nationally averaging 225.6 yards per game.

"They're very consistent," said Roof. "They're efficient and they have a very good back that breaks a lot of tackles."

The Tigers will return to the practice fields Monday at 4 p.m. CT.

Auburn (7-4, 3-4 SEC) will host No. 2 Alabama (11-0, 7-0 SEC) on Friday in Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will kick off at 1:30 p.m. CT and be nationally televised by CBS.
