AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson was selected as one of six finalists for the annual Pop Warner College Football Award on Wednesday.
The award recognizes a graduating senior who has made a difference on the field, in the classroom and in his community, and will be presented on Dec. 7 during the annual Pop Warner Super Bowl at Walt Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.
“One of the things that makes college football so special is the collection of outstanding student-athletes who excel on and off the field as they represent themselves, their schools and their communities with distinction,” Jon Butler, executive director of Pop Warner Little Scholars, said in a press release. “The Pop Warner College Football Award honors one student-athlete whose play, commitment to academics and service to the community represents the ideals of the sport. This year we’re proud of an extraordinary group of finalists from some of the nation’s finest universities.”
Carlson, a two-time Lou Groza Award finalist, is 19 of 25 on field goals this season and is coming off a week where he went 4 of 4 against No. 1 Georgia and earned SEC special teams player of the week honors. He also became the SEC’s all-time leading scorer earlier this season and is currently No. 7 all-time nationally with 456 career points.
Though the award is intended for graduating seniors, Carlson has already graduated with a 3.66 GPA in finance and is scheduled to receive his MBA in May. He’s been named to the SEC Honor Roll every year he’s been at Auburn. And he took part in mission trips to Guatemala and the Dominican Republic this past offseason.
Carlson is also a finalist for this year’s Senior CLASS Award, a semifinalist for the Wuerffel Trophy, and was named the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
