Williams Named Cingular Player Of The Week
November 15, 2004
AUBURN - Auburn senior running back Carnell Williams has been named the Cingular/ABC Sports All-America Player of the Week, the company announced Monday.
Williams earned the award after a vote by fans nationwide. He is the second Auburn player to win the honor this season. Quarterback Jason Campbell was recognized Oct. 18.
Also up for this week's honor were Pittsburgh's Tyler Palko, North Texas' Jamario Thomas and Oklahoma's Jason White.
Williams finished with 198 all-purpose yards in Auburn's 24-6 victory over Georgia. The Attalla, Ala., native did it all against the Bulldogs, running for 101 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries. He caught four passes for 20 passes. The senior also threw a touchdown pass, a 29-yarder to junior wide receiver Anthony Mix, as Auburn improved to 10-0 overall and 7-0 in Southeastern Conference play this season.
For the season, Williams has accounted for 12 touchdowns this season: 10 rushing, one receiving and one passing. He's also gained 961 yards, just 39 short of a second-consecutive 1,000-yard rushing season.
Williams and the Tigers head to Tuscaloosa for the 69th Iron Bowl Saturday. Auburn and Alabama will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game can be seen nationally on CBS.
