AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall’s 214-yard rushing performance against Tennessee last Saturday helped propel him to this week's Manning Award Player of the Week honor Thursday.
He won the quarterback award after three days of voting on Facebook.
Marshall completed only 3-of-7 passes for 35 yards – the least by any Manning nominee this season – but his rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns and a passing TD put him over the top in Auburn’s 55-23 win.
Marshall is the SEC’s eighth-leading rusher with 734 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s 11th in passing, hitting 93-of-159 passes for 1,301 yards and eight touchdowns.
He’ll be looking for more in Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. game against Georgia.
The 10 finalists for the overall Manning Award will be announced Nov. 26. The winner will be announced following the BCS National Championship game on Jan. 6.
Marshall's backfield mate, Tre Mason, was named a semifinalist Thursday for the Doak Walker Award, which goes to the nation’s top running back.
