AUBURN, Ala.  Auburn started the second week of the College Football Playoff standings where it ended the first one.

The Tigers were ranked No. 3 in the new standings released Tuesday night, holding steady after last Saturday's 35-31 win at then-No. 4 Ole Miss. The new Top 4  so important because the top four teams will play in the first-ever playoffs for big-time college football  now features No. 1 Mississippi State, No. 2 Florida State, No. 3 Auburn and No. 4 Oregon. Alabama is No. 5 and TCU is No. 6.

Ole Miss fell to No. 11 by the 12-person selection committee. Another team Auburn beat on the road, Kansas State, moved up to No. 7.

While the votes are secret, selection committee chairman Jeff Long said, "There was a clear voting difference between No. 2 Florida State and No. 3 Auburn. Auburn was solidly in the third position ahead of Oregon."

Auburn's next assignment is to beat Texas A&M in Saturday's 2:30 p.m. game in Jordan-Hare Stadium. It'll be televised by CBS.

"Obviously, the games get bigger this time each week every year," said coach Gus Malzahn on Tuesday. "This will be our last SEC home game for our seniors, so it is a very important game for those guys. We are playing a team that was ranked in the Top 10 about a month ago. They are unbelievable on both sides of the football."

Auburn's challenge will continue after Saturday, with a road game at Georgia, a home game against Samford and a road game at Alabama to close out the regular season.
