AUBURN, Ala.  Dual-threat Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall was recognized for another big season Monday when he was named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, which goes to college football's top player.

Marshall has helped Auburn to a 7-1 start and a No. 3 ranking in the College Football Playoffs standings.

He's Auburn's second leading rusher with 631 yards and nine touchdowns, and he's the top passer, having hit 99-of-155 passes for 1,357 yards and 13 touchdowns. He even has a catch for 17 yards.

Marshall has accounted for 48 touchdowns  including 13 TDs in the last four games  in his career, good for sixth in the Auburn record book.

Marshall is one of 20 players who made the semifinal list. Three other SEC players are on the list: Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott, Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace and Alabama receiver Amari Cooper.

Separately, Marshall is one of eight nominees for the weekly Manning Award, which honors the top performance by a quarterback. Fans can vote on that one.

Marshall hit 15-of-22 passes for two touchdowns and a season-high 254 yards, and ran for another 50 yards in Saturday's 35-31 win over Ole Miss.
