AUBURN, Ala.  Auburn running back Cameron Artis-Payne has been added to the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which goes to the nation's best player, joining teammates Nick Marshall and Sammie Coates as a nominee for the honor.

Artis-Payne and 10 other players were added Wednesday "because of their noteworthy play" during the season, the Maxwell Award said. The first Maxwell watch list, which included Marshall and Coates, was released before the season began.

Artis-Payne leads Auburn in rushing with 664 yards and five touchdowns. He's averaging 110.7 yards per game for the 5-1 Tigers. He's also fifth in receptions with eight catches for 99 yards.

Marshall is second in rushing with 492 yards and four touchdowns. He's hit 72-of-130 passes for 964 yards and 10 touchdowns. Slowed by an injury in the early part of the season, Coates has 12 catches for 222 yards and a touchdown.

The Maxwell seminfinalists will be announced Nov. 3 and three finalists will be announced No. 24. The winner will be announced Dec. 11. The complete Maxwell watch list is here.

Artis-Payne and the rest of the Tigers have a bye week this week. They'll return to action to play South Carolina at home on Oct. 25.
