Wes Byrum Named Alabama Athlete Of The Month By United States Sports Academy Byrum's game-winning field goal against Florida capped a month with eight field goals.

AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn freshmen kicker Wes Bryum has been has been named the Alabama Athlete of the Month for September by the United States Sports Academy.

Byrum made 8-of-10 field goal attempts during the month of September, including the game-winning 43-yard field goal on the final play during a 20-17 upset of then-No. 4 Florida. Byrum was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week following that game, and his kick earned Auburn the Pontiac "Game Changing Performance" Award.

Byrum, who scored a team-high 39 points in September, made three field goals in each of Auburn's first two games against Kansas State and South Florida. Against South Florida, he made a season-long 49-yarder in the first quarter, and a 46-yarder with just 2:54 to play that gave Auburn a 20-17 lead. He was named a Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Star of the Week following both the Florida and South Florida games.

Byrum finished the voting for the Alabama Athlete of the Month ahead of former Mobile Baybear player Justin Upton, who was voted USA TODAY's Minor League Player of the Year, and Alabama volleyball player Crystal Hudson.

The Academy's Alabama Athlete of the Month is selected by a voting committee comprised of former Alabama athletes, state-wide media, and Alabama sports organization representatives. Each Alabama Athlete of the Month winner is automatically added to the Alabama Athlete of the Year ballot at the end of the calendar year.
