Auburn's Daniel Carlson lets it fly against LSU

By Charles Goldberg
AUBURN, Ala.  New Auburn kicker/punter Daniel Carlson continues to win praise from the Southeastern Conference.
The SEC honored Carlson for the second time this season Monday when it named him its special teams player of the week after he helped Auburn beat LSU 41-7 last Saturday. Carlson hit a career-best 46-yard field goal early and hit a 42-yarder in the second half. He averaged 40.7 yards on three punts and five of seven kickoffs were touchbacks.
He also received recognition from the College Football Performance Awards as one of the national specialists of the week. Nick Marshall was named one of Performance Awards' top quarterback performers as well.

The SEC named Carlson its freshman of the week after Auburn's season-opening win over Arkansas. Carlson averaged 53.3 yards per punt in that game, kicked a 45-yard field goal and watched seven of his kickoffs go for touchbacks.

Auburn's other weekly winners this season are Quan Bray, special teams player of the week; and Josh Holsey, defensive player of the week.
Other SEC weekly winners announced for last Saturday's performances were Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace, as the top offensive player; Mississippi State linebacker Richie Brown, as the top defensive player; Florida defensive back Jalen Tabor and Georgia running back Nick Chubb, as co-freshman of the week; Mississippi State center/guard Ben Beckwith as the top offensive lineman; and Kentucky end Alvin "Bud" Dupree, as the top defensive lineman.
