Fast starts keep Auburn's offense in high gear
Sept. 14, 2014

Auburn's Nick Marshall has helped Auburn to fast starts the last two years

AUBURN, Ala. — When Auburn's offense gets going  really gets going — it's not stopping for anybody.

Even Auburn.

Running back Corey Grant has talked about that, saying sometimes players are left on the sidelines as one first down follows another and Gus Malzahn is hurrying things up.
"You never know what's going to happen. It's kind of crazy, but you get used to it," Grant said, and in more detail in this story.
Auburn is looking for pace throughout, and has found to the tune of at least 200 yards of offense in a single quarter eight times in Gus Malzahn's 16 games as the Tigers' head coach, according to Auburn fact finder Scott Scroggins. (Follow him on Twitter at Scroggins' Noggin for all kinds of Auburn things.)

Auburn will be looking for more big numbers when it plays at Kansas State on Thursday night after Saturday's open date.
Auburn has often set the tone, ringing up at least 200 yards of offense three times in the first quarter, including in wins over Arkansas and San Jose State this season. The Tigers have done it three times in the second quarter during Malzahn's tenure.

Oh, Auburn has scored an offensive touchdown in 31 of the last 32 quarters and has scored a rushing touchdown in the last 13 games.
Here are some facts from the Noggin:
In the first quarter against San Jose State, Auburn gained 224 yards of total offense. It marked the eighth time in 16 games under Gus Malzahn, and the second time this season (228 yards in the first quarter vs. Arkansas), that the Tigers have gained at least 200 yards of total offense in a quarter, including five times against SEC teams.  Below is a listing of these quarters.
