AUBURN - The No. 22 Auburn football team returned to the practice fields Wednesday night as it continued to work toward its Southeastern Conference-opener against No. 16/17 Mississippi State (1-0).

The Tigers (1-0) practiced for just under two hours, moving into the new indoor practice facility for the second half of practice. The Tigers worked out in full pads, focusing on positional drills in the first part of practice before moving into special teams work and finally situational drills.

Auburn head coach Gene Chizik said he has been pleased with the way his team has responded in practice following last week's 42-38 win over Utah State.

"We've had two really, really good days of practice in a row and I feel like we've gotten better as a football team," said Chizik. "I fully expect us to play better this Saturday than last Saturday. Again we've got one more day of preparation and we know we've got our work cut out for us."

Playing its SEC opener against a Bulldog team that racked up 309 rushing yards in a 59-14 win at Memphis last week, Chizik knows his quad has a physical matchup ahead of them.

"This is an extremely talented and very well-coached team, again I feel like we've gotten better," said Chizik. "We've had two physical practices in a row. We've tried to concentrate on the physicality of the game and we fully expect to see much improvement on Saturday."

Auburn and Mississippi State will kickoff at 11:21 a.m. CT Saturday from Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will be televised by the SEC Network.
