The No. 9 Auburn football team worked out for an hour and a half Thursday morning at the practice fields behind the Athletic Complex in their final practice before for Saturday's game against Southern Miss.
The Tigers spent the first half of practice on special teams before moving to individual and position drills. Auburn spent much of Thursday’s practice working against the scout teams, as they polished the game plan for the Golden Eagles.
Head coach Tommy Tuberville noted the quick pace of Thursday’s practice was key in preparing for a Southern Miss team that runs a similar, fast-paced offense as the Tigers.
“We finished up preparation for Saturday’s game and we looked good,” Tuberville said. “Today was a very fast tempo; it’s what it will be in a game. Again, we didn’t work against each other. This has been a week to work on the little things. This game has a sense of urgency because this game is going to be here and over before we know it in terms of game time. We have to get prepared quickly.”
Auburn (1-0, 0-0 SEC) will host Southern Miss (1-0, 0-0 C-USA) Saturday in a game that will be televised by Raycom. Both teams enter the contest unbeaten, as Auburn blanked Louisiana-Monroe in its opener, 34-0, while Southern Miss rolled to a 51-21 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette. Kickoff is set for 11:30 a.m. A limited number of tickets remain for Saturday’s game against Southern Miss.
