AUBURN, Ala. -
The Auburn football team continued preparations for the 2009 season opener with a practice that lasted just under two hours Thursday on the Athletics Complex practice fields.
Overcast skies and cooler temperatures greeted the Tigers as practice began, and a light rain fell later in the day, but couldn't dampen the team's enthusiasm. Following the full-pad practice, head coach Gene Chizik said he was happy with the team's performance.
"I thought we practiced well," said Chizik. "We got a lot of things accomplished. The tempo was higher today. I think the weather helped us a little bit. We're working towards the goal of Louisiana Tech, and getting on both sides of the ball the looks we need to get us ready for Sept. 5. It was a good day today."
The Tigers opened with special teams drills before moving quickly to some team work. After individual and position drills, the offensive and defensive units worked against the scout teams, before finishing with another team period.
Auburn has now held 23 practices leading up to the season opener, and is scheduled to hold practice No. 24 Friday at 4:20 p.m. CT.
The Tigers will open the 2009 season Sept. 5 vs. Louisiana Tech at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will kick off at 6 p.m. CT and be televised by ESPNU.
