AUBURN, Ala. — Defensive back Jonathan Jones filled up the stat sheet last year when he ranked among the best in the Southeastern Conference with six interceptions. Jones was back among the leaders Tuesday, leading a contingent of nine Auburn players on the coaches' All-SEC teams.
Jones is Auburn's only first-team selection by the coaches for a football team that was picked to win the league title at SEC Media Days last month. Auburn is ranked in the Top 10 in most of the significant polls as well.
Ten Tigers were named to the media's All-SEC team that was selected in July. Jones, defensive lineman Carl Lawson and receiver Duke Williams earned first-team status then.
This time is was Jones on top by the coaches.
Auburn's second-team representatives on the coaches' All-SEC team are Williams and defensive lineman Montravius Adams. Auburn players on the third team are Lawson, offensive linemen Alex Kozan and Devonte Danzey, quarterback Jeremy Johnson, linebacker Cassanova McKinzy and defensive back Jonathan Ford.
Jones made 36 tackles last season. His six interceptions top all returning players in the SEC.
Jones, Williams, Kozan, Johnson, McKinzy and Ford are on watch lists for national awards. Auburn's representatives on those lists are here.
