AUBURN - The Auburn football team continued its preparations for the Sept. 4 season opener, holding a walk-though Sunday evening on the Athletics Complex practice fields.
Sunday's session gave the team an opportunity to work on correcting mistakes made during Saturday's scrimmage, which was the team's final scheduled scrimmage of fall camp. With four scrimmages under their belts, the Tigers will turn their focus this week on the opening opponent - Arkansas State.
Head coach Gene Chizik said on Sunday that the team will welcome the change in the routine after more than two weeks of practices.
"They're tired of playing against each other, that's for sure," said Chizik. "It's time to start preparing for the season in terms of opponents. I think they're ready. I think they're excited about it. I know coaching-wise, we are. We're going to start that process this week."
Chizik also address the question of whether or not his squad is on schedule with where they want to be at this point of the preseason.
"I think we're close," said Chizik. "I don't think we're far off one way or the other. There are a lot of things that we're doing that we're on schedule with, but obviously I'm glad that we still have two week of practice left to get ready for our first game."
The Tigers will take a day off of practice on Monday before returning to the practice fields on Tuesday at 4:40 p.m.
Auburn opens the 2010 season on Sept. 4 against Arkansas State at 6 p.m. CT in Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will be televised by Fox Sports Net.
