AUBURN, Ala. ¯  The defending SEC champions will start the season as the No. 6 team in the country, according to the Associated Press.

Auburn is ranked sixth in the preseason poll after coming in at No. 5 in the coaches poll two weeks ago. The Tigers finished No. 2 in the nation last year after beginning the season unranked.

Auburn will play seven teams ranked in preseason polls. In the AP poll, that means the Tigers will play No. 2 Alabama, No. 9 South Carolina, No. 12 Georgia, No. 13 LSU, No. 18 Ole Miss, No. 20 Kansas State and No. 21 Texas A&M.

Eight SEC teams are ranked.
