The Auburn football team is ranked 10th in the Associated Press Preseason Poll, which was announced Saturday.
The Tigers received 968 points in the poll to edge Texas by two points for a spot in the Top 10. Auburn is one of six Southeastern Conference teams to earn a preseason national ranking, including four in the top 10. Georgia is ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll, while Florida is fifth and LSU seventh. Tennessee earned a No. 18 ranking while Alabama is No. 24. South Carolina missed making the top 25 by one point.
In addition, West Virginia is ranked No. 8. Auburn will play the Mountaineers Oct. 11 in Morgantown.
It marks the third time since 2003 that the Tigers enter the season ranked in the Top 10 in the Associated Press Preseason Poll. Auburn was ranked No. 6 in the initial poll in 2003 and No. 4 in the preseason poll in 2006.
The Tigers finished the 2007 season ranked 15th in the Associated Press Poll after ending the year with a 9-4 record including a victory over Clemson in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
