AUBURN - The Auburn football team practiced for the 11th consecutive day Tuesday with a two-hour workout at the intramural fields. The Tigers practiced through light intermittent showers through most of the workout, although the sun made a late appearance.
The practice was originally scheduled for the afternoon, but head coach Tommy Tuberville said that the decision was made to change it to the morning after looking at the weather forecast, which called for stronger showers later in the day.
"We looked at the weather forecast and figured we ought to try to get it in, and it worked out," said Tuberville. "We had good individual drills early. It was good to throw a wet ball. Tony (Franklin) wanted to come out even if it was raining and make (the quarterbacks) have to worry about throwing a wet ball. So that worked out pretty good for us."
In addition to the individual drills, the Tigers spent more time working on team work than in previous practices. Tuberville noted the plan was to continue adding more team work each day. Auburn also worked on special teams both early in the practice and at the conclusion with field goals.
Auburn will hold its third set of two-a-day practices on Wednesday at the intramural fields. The first practice is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. CT, and the second for 4:15 p.m.
Auburn's season opener is August 30 when the Tigers host Louisiana-Monroe at 6 p.m. at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Single-game tickets are available for the Louisiana-Monroe, Southern Miss, Arkansas and Tennessee-Martin home games. To purchase tickets visit www.auburntigers.com or call 800-AUB-1957.
