AUBURN -- The Auburn Tigers conducted their first officiated scrimmage of the 2012 preseason Wednesday afternoon at Jordan-Hare Stadium in a two-hour session. About 65 plays were run live from scrimmage.

"I thought the effort was good today," said Auburn head coach Gene Chizik. "The guys are trying hard, and we took some baby steps tonight. Looking at the big picture, it's about what we expected - a lot of inconsistency on both sides of the ball. There's a lot of learning ahead of us.

"Our effort is where it needs to be, but our execution is not. Overall, the message from today will be inconsistency. I expect it to be much cleaner on Saturday."

Thursday is an off-day for the Tigers before they return to the practice field for two sessions on Friday.

Sunday is Auburn's Fan Day, presented by Golden Flake, from 2-4 p.m. at Auburn Arena. Admission is free. The Tigers open the season Saturday, September 1, facing Clemson in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at Atlanta's Georgia Dome.
