Heavy rains forced the Auburn football team to wrap up its second practice of the day a bit early, as the Tigers were on the intramural fields for a little more than an hour Thursday afternoon following a morning practice that lasted just over an hour.
Despite the abbreviated practice, head coach Tommy Tuberville said the Tigers were able to get a few things accomplished.
"We had to move practice up a little bit because of the weather front moving in," Tuberville said. "We needed to get a little more team work in today, but we were able to get some good work in. It was the first day for us to go twice in pads and we've only got three of those left."
The Tigers will practice again Friday morning before holding their first scrimmage of preseason workouts Saturday. That scrimmage will be closed to the public and media.
"We'll try to get around 100 snaps in during team work tomorrow," Tuberville noted. "We're trying to get as much in as we can before Saturday, especially for the younger guys. They are catching on pretty well, and it's probably a good thing that we caught some cooler temperatures before the rain today."
Auburn will practice again at 9:30 a.m. Friday on the intramural fields.
Auburn's season opener is August 30 when the Tigers host Louisiana-Monroe at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Single-game tickets are available for the Louisiana-Monroe, Southern Miss, Arkansas and Tennessee-Martin home games. To purchase tickets visit www.auburntigers.com or call 800-AUB-1957.
