Jeremy Johnson will be taking the snaps for Auburn this year

AUBURN, Ala. ― College football coaches say Auburn is a Top 10 team again, and made it so when they voted the Tigers No. 7 in the preseason coaches poll released Thursday.
Coach Gus Malzahn's optimistic outlook for the football season apparently hit home with his peers. And the media. Auburn was selected to win the SEC championship at SEC Media Days 2015 earlier this month in a prediction that new starting quarterback Jeremy Johnson and new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp will be a factor.
"Auburn is a place where we expect to win championships. We're young and inexperienced, but we're talented young," Malzahn said at ESPN last week.
Auburn played for the national title two of the last five years, winning it all in 2010. The Tigers will be working toward a return trip when they open fall practice Tuesday.
The Top 25 suggests the Tigers will have a tough road through the SEC. Eight SEC teams are ranked, including SEC West members Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss and Arkansas. The West's two other teams, Mississippi State and Texas A&M, received enough votes that they would have been ranked 26th and 27th respectively.
SEC East teams Georgia, Missouri and Tennessee are also ranked.
Louisville, Auburn's season-opening opponent Sept. 5, wasn't ranked in the Top 25, but fell in the group of teams receiving votes.
Defending national champion Ohio State was voted No. 1.
Malzahn is one of 64 coaches voting in the poll this year.
