HOOVER, Ala. – Senior Auburn defensive end Dee Ford, junior running back Tre Mason, junior center Reese Dismukes and senior kicker Cody Parkey were second-team selections on the preseason All-Southeastern Conference team chosen at Southeastern Conference Media Days.
Auburn was picked to finish fifth in the West. Defending national champion Alabama was picked to win the West and win the overall championship. Texas A&M was picked second in the West, followed by LSU, Ole Miss, Auburn, Mississippi State and Arkansas.
Ford said he and his teammates are more concerned about bouncing back from last season’s 3-9 record than individual honors.
“We still have a long way to go, but we're not far off,” Ford said. “Same guys, different mentality."
Georgia was picked to win the East, followed by South Carolina, Florida, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Missouri and Kentucky. The preseason overall favorite chosen at Media Days has gone on to win the championship just four times in the past 21 seasons.
Mason broke the 1,000-yard barrier on his final carry of last season and finished with 1,002 yards and eight touchdowns on 171 carries. Ford was in on 34 tackles last season and had six sacks. Parkey was 11-of-14 on field goals and 27-for-27 on extra points. He is 51-for-51 on extra points for his career. Dismukes has started 23 of 25 games in his Auburn career.
Davis was in on 46 tackles and broke up three passes. Clark was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award last season after being a finalist in 2011.
