AUBURN - The Auburn football team held its 15th and final practice of spring Sunday afternoon at the practice fields behind the Athletics Complex, working out for an hour in shorts and helmets. It marked an end to spring practice under first-year head coach Gene Chizik.
Auburn conducted individual and group drills, touching up on details following Saturday's A-Day game. The Tigers wrapped up their final practice by watching film from the scrimmage.
"We just kind of culminated everything, it was a good day," said Chizik. "We just brushed up on some things, made some corrections and just did some filming of some drills, some technique things. The day after the spring game, everyone is tired and beat up, so we felt like we just needed to get some little things covered. It was a good ending."
Reflecting on his first spring practice, Chizik said he was pleased with the overall effort and felt he and his staff were able to lay the foundation for what they want to accomplish at Auburn.
"I feel good about it, I think we really started the foundation of what we are trying to do here and that I am happy with," said Chizik. "I thought the kids were very focused, they really tried to push through a tough spring. There was a lot of hard work going on and that is the foundation of what we wanted to start.
"There are a lot of Xs and Os, moving parts and learning things, but at the end of the day, if you don't do other things - being physical, being focused, doing those things that I think are the foundation of a football team on offense, defense and special teams, it is hard to be good. So, I was happy to get the foundation."
Auburn will open the 2009 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 5 Louisiana Tech at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
