Auburn Football Practice Report
April 14, 2010
AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn football team crept closer to Saturday's A-Day game with a 90-minute practice and half scrimmage Wednesday morning inside Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Tigers started the workout with individual, position and team drills. The team then conducted a half scrimmage, with special teams drills at the mid-point. Following practice, assistant head coach Trooper Taylor said that although there were positives on the offensive side of the ball during the scrimmage, he was disappointed with the number of turnovers. "I thought we made too many mistakes," said Taylor. "We pride ourselves on taking care of the football, and we turned it over. We have to give credit to the defense, but we need to take better care of the football. Gus (Malzahn) really emphasizes that in every meeting and every drill, and we didn't do a good job of that. You can't win ballgames like that." Defensive coordinator Ted Roof said that his defense is continuing to improve, but still has room to get better. "I thought we made some progress," said Roof. "At this point in spring practice everybody is beat up and everybody is tired, but I thought the contact speed was better and I thought we tackled better. That's not to be confused with good enough, because it wasn't good enough, but it was better and it was a step in the right direction. We had some guys that had some opportunities to make plays and they made them, and that's also a step in the right direction." The Tigers will return to the practice fields Friday morning at 9 a.m. CT. Auburn's A-Day game will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Tickets are $5 for general fans and free for AU students with an Auburn Ignited card.
