Auburn Football Practice Report
April 2, 2012
AUBURN - The Auburn Tigers returned to the football practice field Monday morning, practicing almost two hours in shorts and shoulder pads at the Auburn Football Practice Fields, building on the work done in Saturday's scrimmage, the first of the spring.
"Overall, I was pleased today. It was a good, up-tempo practice," said Auburn head coach Gene Chizik of Monday's session. "We are adding things and learning every day, but I thought overall we came back with a physical practice, which is one of our objectives for the spring. Overall, I was pleased."
Looking back at the film from Saturday's scrimmage, Chizik felt "we put the ball in jeopardy too many times. That was glaring; we have a long way to go in our run game. A lot of that is just the thought process, with all the new information. Our goal is to work through that and get back to fundamentals.
"Conversely, on defense, I thought we gave up a couple of explosive gains, and our consistency has a long way to go. The scrimmage gave us a lot of great teaching moments."
The Tigers return to the practice field Wednesday morning, with just six practices remaining before A-Day on Sat., April 14.
Auburn will unveil statues commemorating the school's three Heisman Trophy winners, Pat Sullivan, Bo Jackson, and Cam Newton, in a ceremony Sat., April 14, at 10 a.m. CT prior to Auburn's annual spring game, A-Day. The ceremony will take place on the east side of Jordan-Hare Stadium, where each statue will be permanently located. Sullivan, Jackson and Newton are scheduled to be in attendance for the event.
A-Day tickets are $5 for general fans and free for AU students with an Auburn Ignited card. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to avoid waiting in line on April 14. To purchase tickets visit www.aubtix.com.
