AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn football team returned to the practice fields Monday as it held its fourth practice of the spring. It was the second practice of the spring for the Tigers in full pads.
Lasting just over two hours, the practice included a heavy dose of full contact. Auburn opened with special teams work, before moving to individual and group drills. The Tigers worked together as a team through many of the latter periods.
Following Monday's practice, head coach Gene Chizik said he was pleased with the energy level the team brought to the workout.
"It was a good practice today, it was really good to see the energy level up," said Chizik. "We have a long way to go as far as technique issues and things that we are trying to day-by-day take some baby steps to improve. The energy level was up, they were running around and for a Monday morning, pretty alert - it was a good day."
With more players on the roster this spring, as opposed to his first season, Chizik said the practices and the atmosphere around them has improved.
"When your numbers are up, your ability to practice longer and scrimmage more improves," said Chizik. "We are trying to create competition. The more you can do best vs. best, the competition edge there is what we are trying to bring out of our team every day."
Auburn will practice on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. CT on the Athletic Complex practice fields.
