    Auburn Football Practice Report

    March 24, 2010

AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn football team opened the 2010 spring practice season Wednesday morning, working out in helmets and shorts for more than two hours at the practice fields behind the Athletics Complex.

"I thought it was a good opening day," said head coach Gene Chizik. "I thought there was a lot of great effort. We're very rusty in a lot of ways. But, obviously it's easier your second time around. The expectations and everybody knowing where they're supposed to be at practice, the tempo of practice and things of that nature are obviously easier and were better today."

It marked the start of the second spring season for Auburn under Chizik. The most notable change from the first spring under Chizik was the start time for practice, as all spring workouts this year will be held in the morning, with the exception of A-Day.

Wednesday's practice included primarily individual and position drills, with 7-on-7 drills as well. The practice had a brisk pace as the Tigers took to the field for the first time since their season-ending 38-35 overtime victory over Northwestern in the 2010 Outback Bowl.

"We're looking for consistency in our practices in terms of not only just effort, but execution on all sides of the ball," said Chizik. "Today I thought we were rusty in that department, but hopefully Friday we'll be much better. It was good work today, so I'm happy with the end of the first day."

The Tigers will conduct their second spring practice on Friday beginning at 9:15 a.m. CT on the Athletic Complex practice fields.
