Q&A With Former Auburn Wide Receiver Courtney Taylor

Courtney Taylor

March 5, 2007

Former Auburn wide receiver Courtney Taylor ended his Tiger career as one of the most decorated receivers in the program's history. He ended his career with 154 receptions, the most by any Auburn player. He also finished with 2,098 receiving yards, placing him fourth in program history.

Taylor was recently invited to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, where the best prospects are invited. He sat down with www.auburntigers.com to discuss the NFL Combine and what his plans are to train before the NFL Draft.

AuburnTigers: What was you overall impression of the combine?
Courtney Taylor: "Overall it was a great experience. It was fun to be around the nation's best players. With the competitive level, I really don't know how to put it. It was like a dream come true just to be out there with the guys on that level. Overall I would give it an A."

AU: Was it beyond what you expected?
CT: "Some things were. As far as the physicals and getting examined by the doctors, you go from room to room meeting with trainers and doctors. It's the same thing in every room. That was kind of surprising."

AU: Did you meet with every team?
CT: "I met with seven or eight teams."

AU: What was the general impression you got from them?
CT: "I felt confident. I felt pretty good. Most of the time when you sit down and go one-on-one with the teams, they want to learn more about you. They also want to see if you know your stuff. They let you do a little chalk talk and ask you about certain coverages to get a feel for you. Most of the time, when you sit down one-on-one, they are trying to learn more about you."

AU: Who did you room with?
CT: "I roomed with Jonathan Holland from Louisiana Tech."

AU: What was the experience of rooming with another player you have never met like?
CT: "It went pretty well. We got along well and did some different things together. He was in a different group than the one I was in. We are kind of like friends for life. He actually went to the same high school as Jonathan Wilhite, so I called Jonathan Wilhite and let him talk to him. He is a good guy."

AU: How nice was it to have your former Auburn teammates participate in the combine?
CT: "It was great, because we all get along."

AU: Did you guys compare notes from the combine?
CT: "Not really. We were just supporting each other. We all know what each of us can do."

AU: Were you nervous leading up to the combine?
CT: "Not at all. I really can't remember a time I was nervous the entire time I was there. I'm confident in myself, and that's just the way I felt."

AU: Did you get some feedback from any of the teams?
CT: "When I was getting ready to go, I was able to see the Patriots and Minnesota wide receivers coaches. There are a couple of teams that want to work me out personally at Pro Day."

AU: What are your immediate plans?
CT: "What I want to do is just stay on top of things. I want to catch as many balls as I can. One of the main things I will do at Pro Day is run routes. Whatever else I hear in the next week or so that I need to work on, I'll do that at Pro Day."

AU: Where will you be working out?
CT: "I'll be working out in Auburn"

AU: Will you be attending any spring practices?
CT: "Yes, I will probably be back in Auburn some time this week."
