Three former Auburn football players will be represented at Super Bowl XLIII on Feb. 1 in Tampa, Fla., when the Pittsburgh Steelers play the Arizona Cardinals. The former Tigers include LB Karlos Dansby and DB Roderick Hood of the Cardinals and OG Kendall Simmons of the Steelers.
It marks the second Super Bowl appearances for Hood and Simmons, and first for Dansby. Simmons was a member of the Super Bowl XL winning Steelers team in 2005, while Hood played in Super Bowl XXXIX as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles that lost to the New England Patriots.
Dansby and Hood both started in Sunday's 32-25 NFC Championship win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Dansby was second on the team with seven tackles, while Hood contributed one tackle.
In his fifth season in the league, all with the Cardinals, Dansby is tied for fourth in the NFL during the postseason with 23 tackles. The Birmingham native led Arizona and was tied for 14th in the league with 119 tackles during the regular season. Starting in all 16 regular season contests, Dansby had four sacks, two forced fumbles and two interceptions.
Hood, in his sixth season, and second with Arizona, started in 14 games, while playing in 15. A Columbus, Ga., native, Hood tallied 40 stops during the regular season with one interception and one forced fumble.
On the injured reserved list, Simmons did not play in the Steelers' 23-14 AFC Championship victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Simmons suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon injury versus the Ravens on Sept. 29.
Auburn has had at least one player represented in the Super Bowl in 25 of the 43 Super Bowls, with this marking the second consecutive year that three former Tigers were members of Super Bowl participants.
Super Bowl XLIII will be televised by NBC with kickoff slated for 5 p.m. CT.
