AUBURN -- Marty Casey didn't mind waiting to catch a glimpse of the Auburn Tigers outside the Athletics Complex on Monday morning. It's a moment she has been waiting on for years.
"We are so excited that Auburn is going to the championship game," Casey said. "We just wanted to come out and see the team off. We've been waiting for this for a long time."
Casey and four of her friends were among a throng of Tiger fans who showed up at the Auburn Athletics Complex to give the team a rousing sendoff. Hundreds of fans encircled the caravan of buses as it rolled out of Auburn and headed toward the Atlanta airport, where the team would catch a charter flight to Phoenix.
"It means a lot to the Auburn family, and we just wanted to show the players how much it means to us," Casey said.
Casey and thousands of other Auburn alumni and fans will follow the team to the Arizona desert, where Auburn and Oregon will play for a BCS National Championship one week from today.
"I'm so excited to be going to the game," she said. "I can't wait for it to get here," she said.
The team was scheduled to fly out of Atlanta early Monday afternoon. More Tiger faithful organized by the Auburn Phoenix Club planned to cheer the team's arrival at the team hotel in Scottsdale early Monday evening.
