Auburn Head Coach Tommy Tuberville
"The effort was good. We found out a little bit more of what we need to do on offense. We didn"t get the ball up the field very well. We tried to force some things. You win games on defense and special teams if you play hard."

"We ran the ball hard. We have three running backs that we feel good about. Tristan (Davis) could have played but he felt a little weak in his ankle so we held him out. He should be able to go next week. We have to be able to put a little bit of the throwing game with the running game that we have, and we are going to get better and better.

"I wanted to get in as many guys in there as we could, especially the younger defensive players because they are going to have to play as we go through the year.

On Tez Doolittle...
"Tez did well. That"s great for him to see him have fun. At this time last year, he was just getting out of the hospital. A year later, it is good to see.

On Gabe McKenzie...
"Gabe got a lot of playing time. He probably played 30-35 plays. We wanted to get him in there as much as we could to get the feel of the game. He is just not comfortable yet. It is not natural, but he will get better as we go. He will give us some depth. We will get A.J. Greene hopefully back next week, and he can also play.

On Robert Dunn's punt return for a TD..
"That's his first one. He is better running the ball straight ahead. We have worked real hard on our kicking game, and it obviously showed tonight. We did miss a field goal, but I thought other than one punt, (Clinton) I thought Durst did well considering this was his first time out. Kickoffs we kicked (Morgan) Hull a lot. If we can get more guys in the game like that who can work on their specialists, it will help them all.

"One thing we were concerned about was that we noticed when the guys came back in from warm-ups, the offensive guys were just so sweaty. I told them your concentration just has to be there. The jerseys are different in a game than they are in practice. They are tighter and slicker. You have to catch the ball with your hands better. It was a good opening game. It was a good experience. We have to get a lot better on offense. We all saw that, and we will. It all starts with coaching and on down.

"We have some good leadership on defense. A lot of guys like to play. If you were watching our linebackers run, we are getting better and better at linebacker. Even the younger guys, (Spencer) Pybus and (Josh) Bynes, those guys are really going to be good players as go through the year. This was a great night to start and see where we needed to work, find out where the wrinkles were and go back Monday morning to try to work those wrinkles out."

Player Quotes
Antonio Coleman, DE
On forced fumble on first defensive stand of the seasoan...
"I've been thinking about that big hit to start off the season. I"ve even dreamed about it. I dreamed about it last night. That was the best way to start off a season."

On shutout win in first game under new defensive coordinator Paul Rhodes...
"Everybody just got out there and did what they were supposed to do. We"re out there playing as a team. When you"re playing like that everybody is going to make plays. When everybody knows what they"re supposed to do it pays off."

Michael Goggins, DE On fumble recovery for touchdown...
"It felt real good. I just went out there to give it my best. It all started out with a nice pressure play from Antonio Coleman. He got the ball loose and I just scooped it up and take it in for the touchdown."

On first game under defensive coordinator Paul Rhodes...
"This defense is coming together as a whole. We"re progressing and coming together as a team. We had a nice defensive plan.

On shutout to open the season...
"It"s always good to come out with a shutout in the first game of the season. We weren"t perfect but we went out there and executed well enough to keep them of the board. It"s always a good feeling to keep someone out of the endzone."

Tyronne Green, OL
On his performance tonight...
"It was a good victory. There are definitely some things that I think we need to work on and get better. Defense played their butts off. They played a great game and shut them out. Offense ran some the first half, came out the second half, and the tempo picked up and we started getting some big plays. Overall, there are a lot of things on offense that we need to work on and try to get better and come out fine-tuned next week at practice and get ready for Saturday"s game against Southern Miss."

On the spread offense... "I felt good about it. We"ve been doing it for a while now all spring. It's definitely not new to us. That"s our second game to actually do it against another team. Like I said, we need to fine tune some little things. I think it will definitely work out for us."

Ben Tate, RB
On his performance tonight...
"We played well. We played OK as an offense. We"ve just got to pick it up. I think I did OK, but I can still get a lot better in a lot of areas. Offensively, we just didn"t get it done tonight."

On the spread offense...
"We have to improve overall catching the ball, picking up protection a lot better with the quarterbacks getting the ball out of their hands. We just have to do a lot of things better."

On Auburn's defense...
"Shutout. That's all that matters. It doesn"t matter how they played. The other team didn"t score. In my book, they played great."

Jerraud Powers, DB
On his performance tonight...
"I thought I played pretty good. Early in the game I wasn"t paying enough attention, but as the game went on, we started to gain focus. But overall, I think we played pretty well."

On a shutout performance by defense...
"I"m just happy that it"s over. That first game, as a fan and as a player, you never know what to expect from both sides of the ball. To come out here and pitch a shutout opening night gives us confidence rolling into the second week."

On Coach Rhoads' first game...
"I thought everything went smooth. We"ve been game-planning and going over how he does things this whole week."

Chris Todd, QB
On his performance tonight...
"I never got in a rhythm. We ran the ball pretty well and started to pass well towards the end. We"ll do whatever we need to do in order to win. We have to move the ball a little better and maybe take some more chances."

On his first Auburn TD...
"It was relieving, but really exciting for me to get that first one under my belt."

ULM Coach and Player Quotes

Head coach Charlie Weatherbie
Opening statement...
"Auburn is a very good team. They were able to capitalize on our mistakes. Any time you come out and get a turnover on the first play of the game, it is a disheartening experience. I felt like it should have been 3-3 at the half, if we would have made that field goal and not given up the turnovers. We were going to come out strong in the second half, but we actually gave them 24 of their 34 points. I thought our defense looked good. We got a little tired at the end. Auburn's defense was as good as we have faced. They are a good team and we played our hearts out. I'm proud of the way we played."

How did you prepare for two quarterbacks?...
"We did prepare for two quarterbacks, but it didn't matter we played the same. It didn't surprise us; we knew exactly what they were going to do. Burns is a good runner and I thought Todd ran the offense well and threw the ball well."

How was it tonight playing with several freshmen?...
Anthony McCall played well; he had a good first showing. We missed him a couple of times on big plays, but he did well. He's a talented guy who has good hands. He's smart and reads the defense well. Julian Griffin got a couple of reps. We have several new bodies on the offensive line."

"On fourth-and-one the offensive line went the wrong way and that just comes from being new a team. They are just learning and we have to get them working together."

Kinsmon Lancaster, QB
On the offensive line's performance...
"They played good but made some mistakes. It's their first game together so you can't expect them to be perfect."

On the first play of the game...
"I expected him [Antonio Coleman] to be there. I just need to get rid of the ball next time."

On Auburn's defense...
"They have a very good team. They fly around the field and make plays. We need to execute better next time."

On Louisiana-Monroe's offensive performance...
"I thought we did pretty good. We need to establish drives to score more points and to keep the defense off the field."

On Anthony McCall...
"He's a great player with good hands who runs good routes. He's a deep threat and I think he's going to be a great player."

Cardia Jackson, LB
On preparing for Auburn's two quarterbacks...
"They didn't do anything we didn't practice for. We need to play better and make more plays."

On Louisiana-Monroe's inability score following defensive stops...
"It's a little frustrating to shut a team out and the offense not score any points. They'll come around."

Frank Goodin, RB
On the offensive line's performance...
"They did pretty well. I need to do better and work on my vision."

On the offense unable to score...
"We made too many mistakes and then we weren't able to get ourselves out of that hole. We need to execute better."

On his first collegiate game...
"I gave it my all and feel I can leave with my head held high. There is always room for improvement. The offensive line did all that they could. I need to work on my vision. Auburn's defense was very fast; it's the fastest I've ever faced."

Troy Evans, DE
Is Auburn's spread different than others faced?...
"It wasn't very different. They did what we expected and we were able to shut them down the first half." How was it with two quarterbacks coming in and out during a series? "It was a big difference. Chris Todd is a great passer and Kodi Burns runs really well. Both are similar so it also makes it difficult."

What will you take away from the game?...
"I feel that the defense played well and that we executed our game plan and had a great first half. We definitely have room for improvement, but I think we'll have a great season."

Luther Ambrose, WR
On his first collegiate game...
"The game is a lot faster than I thought and I had to adjust to the speed. I played a good first half, but still need to get better."

Anthony McCall, WR
On his first collegiate game...
"I expected a little more out of this game, but playing an SEC team is always going to be tough. We made too many mistakes on offense. It's a good feeling to get so much playing time as a true freshman. I was a little nervous on the first play, but after that I was fine."

On his homecoming and birthday...
"It was nice that a lot of my friends and family were here."

On the offense...
"We looked good in the first half, but struggled in the second. We need to get better to keep the defense off the field.

What to take from the game...
"We need to move on to Arkansas for next week. It's another SEC team so we can expect another high caliber game."
