Auburn Tigers
Head Coach Gus Malzahn
Opening Statement:
"Give Mississippi State credit and congratulations to those guys. They are a very good football team. We started out in a hole. We turned the ball over the very first two plays we had and we got in a hole and their crowd got into it. I think a big factor in the game was our red zone offense and not being able to score touchdowns. I think we had two field goals in the first half and one miss. That was a bigger factor in the game. Bottom line is that you got to give Mississippi State credit. They are a very good football team. We knew that we would have to play well to beat them and we did not do that. They had something to do with that."
On think about a playoff:
"I'm not thinking about a playoff. I'm thinking we just got beat by one of the better teams in the country. We didn't play our best. We are still one of the better teams, I think. I feel strong about that. We'll get better and we have a week off, which is good. We got to heal up a little bit, fix a few things and have a plan for the second part of the season."
On parity in the SEC West....
"We have to learn from this. We had a setback similar to this last year. There are a lot of champions in that locker room. They are disappointed and they should be. They are great competitors. They will be committed on getting better and that will be our focus."
DL Angelo Blackson
On the beginning of the game:
"We struggled in the beginning, but that is a part of football, a part of the game. We tried our best to get back into it, but we were just too deep in the hole."
On Mississippi State:
"That's a great team. They had their plays and they made those big plays. Sometimes we were in position and sometimes we weren't. They just capitalized. That's a great team."
On the future:
"We are just going to move forward. We have a great challenge ahead of us. We are just going to take it one day at a time."
DB Jonathan Jones
On Mississippi State:
"They have some great receivers' some great guys. They run good routes. We kind of knew what they liked to do, and we just had to go out and play them."
On a possible last-quarter comeback:
"We never felt out of it. Coach (Malzahn) is always telling us to be focused. We might face adversity, and we did face adversity and tried our best to fight out of it."
