Auburn set a school record with 15 blocks, the fifth-highest total in SEC history, and five Tigers finished in double figures as Auburn handed Jacksonville State an 89-61 loss at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum as all the Tigers's scored. Freshman Randy Hughes led the way with 13 points and six blocks, while Bryant Smith had 12 points, six rebounds and three steals. Adrian Chilliest came off the bench to score 11 points for the Tigers. Auburn used a 12-0 run to open a 30-11 first half lead with 10:09 left and took a commanding 50-18 halftime lead. The Tigers held the Gamecocks to just 22.6 percent shooting from the field in the first half, while Auburn connected on 54 percent of its shots. The Tigers led by as many as 39, 68-29, with 11:46 left in the game. Auburn outrebounded JSU 57-43. Derrell Johnson led the Gamecocks with 16 points.
