Bryant Smith had 18 points and a career-high 11 rebounds and Mamadou N’diaye had both a career-high 18 points and 10 boards in leading Auburn to a 96-75 win over Nicholls State Monday before 2,250 in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum in Auburn’s home opener. The Tigers opened an early 11-4 lead in the first half before the Colonels scored seven straight points to tie the game at 11 with 13:46 remaining. The Tigers took the lead for good at 27-24 with 6:02 left in the first half on a 3-pointer by Smith. After leading 36-31 at the half, Auburn used a 10-0 run midway through the second half to open a 59-41 lead with 9:36 remaining. The Tigers enjoyed their biggest lead at 95-73 with 23 seconds left in the game. Auburn had six players in double figures as guard Doc Robinson had 13 points and career-high eight assists, Scott Pohlman and Franklin Williams each had 12 points and Randy Hughes added 10 points and seven boards. The Tigers shot a season-high 52.5 percent from the field for the game and outrebounded the Colonels 46-30.
