Austin Bates scored a game-high 24 points and Vanderbilt shot 63 percent in the second half as the Commodores defeated Auburn 82-66 before 14,641 in Memorial Gymnasium. Auburn played without leading scorer and rebounder Bryant Smith who did not dress out because of a badly sprained ankle in the previous game vs. LSU. Leading 30-27 at the half, the Commodores shot 70 percent (7-10) from 3-point range in the second half to take control. Randy Hughes led Auburn with 14 points off the bench. The Tigers shot a miserable 16 percent (3-19) from 3-point range.
