˙For the second consecutive game in Hawaii, Auburn went into overtime. This time, however, the Tigers outscored the host team and Div. II Hawaii-Hilo 16-10 in overtime to take a 98-92 victory. Pat Burke led Auburn with 20 points and 13 rebounds while Franklin Williams totaled 18 points and 8 boards and freshman Doc Robinson had 18 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds in his first collegiate start. Merriel Jenkins, a UCLA transfer, scored a game-high 29 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Vulcans. The Tigers trailed 42-35 at the half and then fell behind by as much as 48-39 with 18:55 left in the game. A 14-5 Tiger run over the next four minutes then tied the game at 53. Hawaii-Hilo then scored the game's next 9 points to take a 62-53 lead with 12:48 left. Auburn closed to within 64-63 three minutes later. It wasn't until the 5:06 mark that the Tigers regained the lead at 76-75 on a dunk by Burke. Smith drilled a 3-pointer off a set play with 5 seconds left in regulation to give Auburn an 82-79 lead. However after a timeout, the Vulcans' Rodney Odrick sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. Hilo scored the first 3 points in overtime, but the Tigers went on a 10-1 run to take control of the game.
