˙˙LSU scored the first 10 points of the game, led 21-5 nine minutes into the contest and never trailed in defeating Auburn 74-59 before 3,595 at the Maravich Assembly Center Wednesday. Maurice Carter, averaging 6.8 points and making 1-22 three-pointers coming into the contest, burned Auburn for 28 points on 11-20 shooting. Derek Caldwell led Auburn with 17 on 5-8 shooting from 3-point range. LSU led 35-24 at the half. LSU led by as much as 51-34 with 13:47 to go and the closest Auburn could get was 53-45 with 11:02 remaining. Auburn shot 37 percent while LSU shot 48 percent, 57 percent from 3-point range.
