Franklin Williams scored 16 points and Pat Burke had 10 rebounds as Auburn defeated Tennessee 43-35 in the lowest scoring game in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum history before 7,824. The 35 points the Tigers allowed against the Vols is the fewest since 1949 in a 41-33 victory over Georgia Tech. The 43-points output is the fewest Auburn has scored in a game since 1985 and the fewest in the 29-year Coliseum history. The 35 points allowed are also the fewest allowed in the Coliseum since it was built in 1969-70. The Tigers led for the majority of the game and by as much as 12 points on several occasions in the second half. Behind Williams' 12 first half points, the Tigers took a 24-18 lead at halftime. The Tigers led 31-19 with 16:30 left, and the Vols trimmed the lead to 40-35 with 1:28 left. Both teams struggled shooting the ball with Auburn shooting 31 percent and Tennessee 34 percent. AU had 11 steals and forced 21 Vol turnovers. Tennessee's Brandon Wharton was the only other player in the game to score in double figures with 16.
