Wes Flanigan scored a career-high 25 points and had 7 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals in leading Auburn to an 80-71 victory over Northeast Louisiana before 3,091 at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. The Little Rock, Ark., native was 6-10 from the field and 5-5 from the foul line. The Tigers led by as many as 33-25 with 3:51 left in the first half before the Indians closed to within 35-31 at halftime. Northeast opened the second half with a 8-0 run to take a 39-35 lead. The Tigers regained the lead for good on a Flanigan jumper for a 45-44 lead with 12:59 remaining. In fact, AU went on a 11-0 run to turn a 44-41 deficit into a 52-44 lead with 11:29 on the clock. After calling timeout, the Indians went on a 8-2 run of their own to close to within two points. However, that is as close as they would get. The Tigers pushed their lead to as much as 12 at 76-64 with 1:29 left. AU, which shot .433 percent in the first half, was .552 percent from the field in the second half -- good for .492 percent for the game. Northeast was .446 percent from the field for the game. The Tigers were 17-21 (.810) from the foul line while the Indians were 6-12 (.500). Ray Donald chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds for the Tigers while Pat Burke totaled 10 points, 7 boards and 4 blocks. Northeast was led by Paul Marshall's game-high 29 points and Alvin Edwards' 19 points and game-high 9 rebounds. The win gave Auburn an 8-1 record, it's best start in 11 years.
