Tulane outscored Auburn 16-2 in overtime to claim an 87-73 victory in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum. Auburnís Franklin Williams banked-in a 3-pointer with three seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 71. The Green Wave's LeVeldro Simmons' 3-point attempt with 0.6 seconds left rimmed in and out. Auburn took a 2-0 lead on a Williamsí jumper, but didnít lead again until 1:27 left in the second half, 68-67, following a Lance Weems 3-pointer. Tulane used a pair of 8-0 and 10-0 runs early in the first half to establish an 18-5 lead less than seven minutes into the game. The Green Wave led by as much as 15, 30-15, with 7:30 remaining in the first half. The Green Wave let a 42-28 halftime lead slip away as Auburn charged back, using a 10-0 run to cut the Tulane lead to 49-46, with 13:06 remaining. The Auburn rally was led by Weems, who hit back-to-back 3-pointers, and Alvin Jefferson with back-to-back dunks. Jeffersonís foul shot tied the game at 56 for the first time at the 8:27 mark. Simmonsí 3-pointer with three minutes left in overtime put Tulane up for good as the Green Wave scored the final 13 points of the game. Simmons led all scorers with 26 points and had 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Jerald Honeycutt had 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Other Tulane players finishing with double digits were Chris Cameron with 13 and Rayshard Allen with 10. Weems led Auburn with 19 points and Jefferson came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points. Williams finished the game with 10 points for Auburn.
