LSU handed Auburn its worst loss of the season in a 93-67 thrashing before a paid crowd 8,793 (3,000 actual) at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Auburn shot a season-low .313 percent from the field while LSU shot .466 percent, .594 percent in the first half. Auburn committed 16 first-half turnovers, 23 for the game. Freshman Bryant Smith scored a career-high 17 points, pulled down 5 rebounds and had 4 steals while fellow freshman Derek Caldwell chipped in 12 points for Auburn. LSU was paced by six players in double figures, including Rogers Washington's game-high 20 points. Maurice Carter chipped in 15 points and Roman Rubchenko totaled 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. LSU outrebounded Auburn 53-32. Auburn cut the LSU lead to 12-11 with 14:35 left in the first half, and then LSU outscored Auburn 42-20 the rest of the half for a 54-31 halftime lead. LSU led by as much as 34, 88-54 with 5 minutes to play.
