Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum
Auburn, Ala.

Darryl Wilson scored 11 points in overtime to lift Mississippi State over 22nd-ranked Auburn 78-75 before a sold out crowd of 10,108 in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. Wilson, who scored just three points in regulation, scored twice from the field, including a three-point basket, and was a perfect six-of-six from the free throw line in the extra stanza. Auburnís Lance Weems hit a 3-point basket to open overtime, before the Bulldogs scored 10 straight points for a 74-67 lead. Weems converted three free throws with 14.2 seconds left, narrowing Stateís lead to 78-75. On the ensuing in-bounds play, Wilson broke free for a layup, but had his shot blocked by Wes Flanigan. Weems gained the rebound with eight seconds left, drove up court, and passed to Franklin Williams at the top of the key. Williams was guarded closely by Russell Walters and lost control of the ball while attempting a three-point shot. State regained possession as time expired. The Bulldogs led most of the way. Auburn opened the game with two three-point baskets before State scored 10 unanswered points for a 12-6 margin. State held the lead until 7:10 remaining, when Adrian Chilliest hit a layup, capping a 13-0 run and giving the Tigers a 51-50 lead. Erick Dampier nailed a hook shot with 14 seconds left in regulation, tying the contest at 64 apiece. Stateís Dontae Jones had both a career-high and game-high 22 points and 13 boards, despite picking up his fourth personal foul with 13 minutes left in regulation. Bulldog center Erick Dampier added 20 points. Point guard Wes Flanigan led Auburn with 19 points. Weems and center Pat Burke each added 14 for the Tigers. The game was postponed a day because of inclement weather and Mississippi State's inability to travel to Auburn.
