Franklin Williams scored 18 points and Wes Flanigan 17 to lead Auburn to an 89-86 victory over 17th-ranked Georgia before a sellout crowd of 10,108 at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. The win vaulted Auburn -- with a ranking of 23 in AP and USA Today/CNN -- into the top 25 for the first time since Jan. 10, 1988. The game was close the entire way, with the largest lead being eight points. Tied at 81 with 2:10 remaining, Auburn nailed eight consecutive free throws, four by Williams, two by Flanigan and the last two by Pat Burke to give the Tigers a 3-point lead with 17 seconds left. Georgia had two 3-point attempts to tie but missed. In fact, Auburn did not score a basket for the final 5:55 of the game when Flanigan hit a jumper for a 80-77 lead. Leading 43-42 at the half, the Tigers hit five 3-pointers to open the half as it built the game's largest lead at 58-50 in less than five minutes. The Bulldogs stormed back to take its final lead at 77-76 with 7:37 to play before Auburn's heroics. UGA's Shandon Anderson scored a game-high 21 points. Georgia, which came into the game leading the SEC in five defensive categories, allowed the Tigers to shoot .525 percent from the field and .414 percent from 3-point range. The Bulldogs, which outrebounded Auburn 39-26, shot .500 percent from the field. Both teams had only 10 turnovers, which marked Auburn's lowest total of the season thus far.
