Auburn 82, Coastal Carolina 66
December 17, 1995
Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum
Auburn, Ala.

Auburn used stifling full-court pressure and the 3-point shot to open up a 22-point lead with 5 minutes to go into the game and cruised to an 82-66 victory over Coastal Carolina before 2,217 at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. Auburn's 9-1 record marks its best start in 33 years. The Tigers overcame a slow start and horrid 34 percent shooting in the first half that gave the Chanticleers their biggest lead at 29-23 with 2:45 left in the first half. But the Tigers finished the half with a 12-0 run for a 34-29 lead at intermission. Coastal pulled to within 34-33 at the 18:34 mark of the second half. But Auburn answered with a full-court, man-to-man pressure, forcing turnovers as the Tigers proceeded with a 11-0 run over the next 1:30. The run was keyed by two 3-point shots by Lance Weems and another from Wes Flanigan. The margin widened as the Tigers hit nine treys in the second half and shot 53 percent from the floor. Auburn then emptied the bench and Coastal could only pull to within 15. Eleven Auburn players saw action, and they were led by Weems' 18 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Williams had 16 and Flanigan added 11 points and 7 assists after missing 10 minutes of the first half with a cut above his left eye, requiring six stitches. AU's four freshman -- Derek Caldwell, Adrian Chilliest, Bryant Smith and Phillip Thomas -- came off the bench and combined for 22 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Pat Burke had 8 points and a game-high 9 boards. The Chanticleer's were led by Ingram's 19 points and Lee Grant's 15. Coastal had 24 turnovers.
