Auburn jumped out to a 32-22 hafltime lead and never looked back as the Tigers downed La Salle 70-60 in the first round of the Puerto Rico Shootout in Bayamon, P.R. The Tigers played without starters point guard Moochie Norris and forward Chris Davis who did not make the trip because of questions concerning their eligibility. Lance Weems scored 17 points (5-11 from 3-point range) to lead Auburn while point guard Wes Flanigan had 12 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds. Pat Burke chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds while Rady Donald notched 12 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists while making 9-10 free throws. Auburn committed 24 turnovers and shot .479 percent from the field, but limited the Explorers to .333 percent shooting. La Salle's Romaine Haywood led all scorers with 30 points.
