Auburn Basketball's Jordan Price Named SEC Freshman of the Week
Jordan Price

Dec. 17, 2012

AUBURN -- Auburn Basketball's Jordan Price was named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 14.0 points in only 17.5 minutes per game while going 10-of-12 from the floor and a remarkable 8-of-8 from 3-point range, the league office announced on Monday.

Price scored 14 points each in wins over Furman and Grambling State and the Decatur, Ga., native had identical stat lines by going 5-of-6 from the field and 4-of-4 from 3-point range.

"It is a blessing," said Price. "It was all my teammates and my coaches. They set up the plays and got me the ball. I am just happy to be on the team and be able to produce for the team. It has been a lot of practice and working with my teammates and coaches, and I am getting more comfortable as the games go by."

Price came into the two games averaging only 5.3 points and shooting 34.8 from 3-point range and 31.7 percent from the field. The 6-foot-5 guard scored a career-high 19 points while making a career-high 5-of-8 three-pointers vs. Rhode Island on Nov. 25.

"I am happy for Jordan," said Auburn head coach Tony Barbee. "He is like a typical freshman. He is a guy who we talk about that he has always judged his value as a player or the impact that he can have on the game by the number of points that he scored. We try to break that habit quickly, and he is struggling with it in some ways. You are not always going to be an efficient offensive player every night out.

"It is the other areas of the game that you can constantly do every possession every game. You can rebound. You can defend. You can be vocal. Taking charges, you can dive. Those areas have more impact on the game than what you do offensively."

Price is Auburn's first player to be recognized for an SEC award since Kenny Gabriel was named SEC Player of the Week on March 7, 2011. Frankie Sullivan was Auburn's most recent SEC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 16, 2009.

Price will try to continue his streak of eight consecutive made 3-point attempts vs. Tennessee Tech on Tuesday at 7 pm Central in Auburn Arena. Bleacher seats are $5 each while they last. The $5 ticket special is only available at the Auburn Arena box office on gameday. The arena doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
